Bowling Green State University women's basketball student-athletes Laura Bugher and Maggie Hennegan have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 Team, it was announced Thursday (Feb. 4). Both were named to the second team.

The District 4 team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, a starter or important reserve, and must carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.

Bugher, a senior, and Hennegan, a redshirt junior, each maintain a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. Bugher is an early childhood education major, while Hennegan is a health care administration major with a minor in business at BGSU.
Bugher and Hennegan were the only two Mid-American Conference student-athletes named to any of the eight ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams on Thursday. Bugher is in her fourth season at BGSU, having helped the Falcons to a 104-22 overall record and a 51-6 MAC ledger since her arrival on campus. Hennegan is in her second year at BG, having sat out last season after transferring from Saint Louis University.
Bugher, a native of Greenwood, Ind. (Lutheran H.S.), has played in 17 of BGSU’s 23 games off the bench, including seven of the team’s nine MAC games. She has averaged 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, and has shot 70 percent from the field, going 7-of-10.
Hennegan, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (St. Ursula), has played in all 23 games, starting the first eight of the season, and is averaging 5.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She is sixth on the team in scoring and third in rebounding. Hennegan, who also ranks fourth in assists, is shooting 47.6% from the floor, placing her second on the Falcons in that category. Her two double-digit scoring games include a 10-point outing in BG’s most recent game, Tuesday’s (Feb. 2) 85-67 win over Northern Illinois.
A pair of Middle Tennessee State players, Brandi Brown and Alysha Clark, were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team. They were joined by Jenna Bartsokas of Lipscomb, Angie Bjorklund of Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky’s Colette Cole. The second team was comprised of Bugher, Hennegan, Dayton’s Kristin Daugherty, Murray State’s Rachael Isom and Oakland’s Melissa Jeltema.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller are 18-5 overall and 8-1 in MAC play, heading into a Saturday (Feb. 6) game at Ball State. The game, the MAC TV Game of the Week, is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be televised by Fox Sports Net (FSN Ohio and FSN Indiana).
Congrats to Laura and Maggie! We are very proud of their hard work on and off of the court.
