MAC Champions at the Q
The "Q" in downtown Cleveland
The Mid-American Conference Council of Presidents approved a recommendation to retain a 12-team men’s and women’s basketball tournament format with only eight men’s and women’s teams advancing to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The first-round games for both tournaments will be held on campus sites of the higher seeded team. The approved format will be in place for a two-year period (2010 and 2011) and returns to the format used by the MAC from 2000-2006.The Council of Presidents endorsed the Directors of Athletics’ recommendation that over the next 12 to 16 months the MAC develop a fiscally responsible plan to arrive at two 12-team tournaments at separate, neutral-site venues beginning with the 2012 tournaments.
"Although I am disappointed that we will have to wait until 2012 to have our own neutral-site tournament, I am pleased that the President's decided to keep all 12 MAC teams participating in the MAC Tournament. I believe over the next year, the MAC will have a solid plan for the 2012 tournament which would likely include the brand new downtown arena in Toledo."
