Coach Miller's Recap of the Banquet

Hello Falcon Fans!

It’s finally my turn to have a blog entry…my assistants have been begging me to write one for months now, but we all know how crazy the end of the season can be!

It has been a busy few weeks since the end of our season. Our players have been working hard in our limited post season workouts, studying diligently for exams, and looking forward to some summer down time. We recently celebrated our season with our annual banquet on Friday, May 1st. It was a great night, with 300 people in attendance to help us celebrate our success from the 2008-09 season and to say goodbye to Lindsey and Randall. We also handed out our annual awards. Below is a list of this year’s winners:

Student-Athlete of the Year: Laura Bugher
Most Improved: Jess Slagle
Impact Player of the Year: Lindsey Goldsberry
Playmaker of the Year: Tracy Pontius
Power Player of the Year: Tara Breske
Player of the Year: Lauren Prochaska
Falcon Award: Lindsey Goldsberry, Randall Clark
Fran and Marty Voll Senior Achievement Award: Lindsey Goldsberry

I also began a new tradition this year and announced our new captains for the 2009-10 season. The captains are voted on by the team and coaching staff. I was proud to recognize Tara Breske, Sarah Clapper, and Maggie Hennegan as our new tri-captains.

It was a great evening and I really appreciate everyone that was able to attend. I am very proud of the achievements of our team this season. Also, two weekends ago at the Student-Athlete Honors Banquet, our team received two tremendous honors. Laura Bugher was named the Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year and Lindsey Goldsberry received the highest honor given by the university…the Falcon Medal of Honor. Both of these young ladies work very hard on the court and in the classroom and we are proud to have them honored for their accomplishments. In addition, we had two of our players, Lindsey Goldsberry and Tara Breske, honored by the conference by being named to the MAC All-Academic Team.

I am currently out in Phoenix for NCAA Rules Committee Meetings. I am enjoying it, but it’s interesting how much time and discussion goes into our rules…even rules as simple as how a uniform should look! Don’t worry though…I have left the program in great hands this week. I didn’t leave town without leaving each of my assistants a two-page to-do list. They were very excited about it. I’m sure that they are working hard with me out of the office!
