Champions on the Court AND in the Classroom!

Head Coach Curt Miller celebrating graduation with seniors Kelly Zuercher and Chelsea (Albert) Groenewegen

As a program, we take tremendous pride in our accomplishments on the court. With a seven year run that included seven division titles, seven MAC Championships, seven post-season appearances, and a host of other honors and milestones, who wouldn’t?

However, we take just as much pride, if not more, in the accomplishment of our young women in the classroom. And that is why, when the spring semester grades came out recently, if you had seen our staff, you might have thought we just won another MAC Tournament! You’ve heard a lot about the basketball accomplishments, but how about some of our academic accomplishments this season:
· 10 members of the team have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
· 15 members of the team have a cumulative GPA above a 3.16
· 3 members of the team have a cumulative GPA of 4.0
· 9 players earned a 4.0 GPA in the Spring and Fall semesters
· Maribeth Giese was a finalist for Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year
· Maggie Hennegan was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team
· 9 members of the team were Academic All-MAC Honorees, more than any other team in the MAC.
· Finished the 2011-12 Season with a Team Cumulative GPA of 3.43, which should put us in the Top 25 for the third consecutive year.

Aristotle said “Excellence is not an act, but a habit.” We are very fortunate to have in our program a group of women who strive for excellence, regardless of their endeavor. It shows on the court, and even more importantly, it shows in the classroom!
