This week's blog is by Junior Tara Breske...she recaps the final big event of the summer for the team...Junkyard Wars!! Go Falcons!!
Hey Falcon Fans!
Summer school is finally over and we ended with a bang. The “little kiddies” (as we call the Freshman) did well on and off the court this summer and we bonded as a team. The final challenge of the summer for the team was a little event we call Junkyard Wars. This is what I, along with the rest of the team, look forward to every summer because it is challenging yet fun.
The upperclassmen got to pick teams for the strongwoman challenge, so we wrote everyone’s name on the board from weakest to strongest – with Lo being the strongest of course. J Even though the teams were split up evenly, everyone counted my team out of the running for first place. The ninja’s consisted of Kelly, MB, Tracy, Jen, and Laura. The skulls had Niki, Clap, Chelsea, and Victoria. The Pink Panthers had Me, Jess, Golds, and Lo.
Junkyard wars took place Thursday morning at 5am and was comprised of seven events. The tire flip, hill run, dumbbell squats, butt taps, chin hold, and bench press and walk-of-doom (where Lo and Golds couldn’t even lift the weight!). The three teams were split up at the different stations so we couldn’t tell where we stood on the events compared to the other teams.
After the last team finished, we talked smack until the results were calculated. Kelly Howe, our strength coach, then announced the winner, and to everyone’s surprise it was the Pink Panthers!! We were estatic and started talking even MORE smack as we blew teams away in 4 out of the 7 events. Needless to say, I was sore to the touch for a week straight after!!
After our post-event photo shoot, the entire team including Kelly, came to the Junior’s place at Copper Beach for breakfast because almost everyone was going home for the summer and Kelly Howe was leaving us. Breakfast was DELICIOUS and we had the works!
My team has dominated the past two years and I can’t wait to defend the title again next year.
BRING IT!
